Legacy videos can take many different forms. In short, they’re videos capturing highlights from a person’s life. A legacy video typically captures stories and memories as told by the person themselves with the goal of leaving behind a legacy for friends and family to watch and cherish. Legacy videos feel like documentaries because they’re ordinarily a mixture between single person interviews, photos, and music that all help tell the stories.
It’s important to understand exactly what’s meant by ‘legacy’ when defining a legacy video. Merriam-Webster has a couple of definitions for legacy. The first being “a gift by will especially of money or other personal property.” But we’re more interested in the second definition; “something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past.” Legacy videos are truly a way to leave more than just physical gifts or money - they’re a way to leave behind a digital memory of who you are as a person. Your kids, grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren will be excited and honored to know where they’ve come from.
Legacy videos can cover a variety of topics. Many people love to talk about their family, their life accomplishments, significant life events, meaningful friendships and relationships, and many also use legacy videos to pass down wisdom and knowledge they’ve acquired throughout their lives.
